AbstractMost studies involving the Remote Sensing technique in the agricultural field use medium spatial resolution images. However, these sensors present low temporal resolution. An alternative to increase the volume of (spectral) data for summer crops is the use of sensors with high temporal resolution, as MODIS. These sensors present a daily temporal resolution, increasing the chances of obtaining spectral data in a smaller time intervals. The objective of this study is to verify if the surface reflectance product (MOD09GQK) supplied by MODIS, is reliable and accurate for crop monitoring. For this, spectral field measurements were taken, in a cultivated land with three soybean varieties located in the Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, during the crop year of 2003/04. These measurements were made at 30 georeferenced points, scattered throughout the study area, using the spectroradiometer. With these results were concluded that for this field and crop conditions, the data supplied by MODIS in relation with field data, showed no significant differences for the vegetation indices (NDVI and EVI).
